With residential wind turbines there are a lot of options these days. It very much depends though on where you want to install the device as to which kind is best for you.

The two alternatives that are best to consider are the horizontal wind device and the vertical wind device. Each has its own application and you must carefully dig into the details of where exactly you want to install it in order to tell which is best for that particular location.

Say for example, that you need to install a wind device on the roof. The wind on everyone's roof is turbulent. That means it takes a special kind of wind turbine. If you are to take any horizontal wind turbine for example and place it on your roof - which is certainly done in some circumstances - you would find that would be constantly seeking the strongest prevailing wind.

Unfortunately, the wind shifts too much in a roof environment and that can put a lot of wear and tear on a horizontal wind turbine. That leads us to some other alternatives.

So, with this type of environment is can be best to install a vertical wind turbine. As far as residential wind turbines go this is the one that can handle turbulent conditions the best. It has no tail section that will constantly seek the best wind so therefore, it is free to spin in whatever direction the wind happens to blow it. And this is exactly what will happen in a chaotic environment.

If however, you have a strong prevailing wind, then the best alternative is going to actually be a horizontal wind turbine. The reason for that is the tail section will allow it to find the best wind and turn the device in that direction.

Without the problem of an ever diminishing oil supply, none of this would be happening. If there were a source of fuel that could easily replace the current sources, we would not need to go to all the trouble to set up home energy generation. Home wind turbines are just a way of stemming the tide or rising costs.

In summary, there is no best alternative what comes to residential wind turbines. You just have to size the particular alternative to the situation at hand and make the most out of the wind that is available in the best spot on your property.
