Why are wind turbine prices going down and not up? With all the controversy surrounding the fossil fuel markets these days, this is a hot topic and one that is not likely to go away so.

The first reaction you probably will have is that everything goes down in price over time. Moore's law says that we will get more computer power every 2 years and it will likely double although prices will be falling in that same period of time. This is the philosophical economy of life that we are used to these days. With wind turbine prices, things are no different.

There are a variety of reasons why prices are going down… First of all there are more and more of these devices out in the field. That means that the interest level is high and manufactures are making more and more of them with increasingly efficient equipment. This only leads to cheaper prices. As more and more of these units become available the competition increases in prices go down. Profits go down. And the consumer wins every time.

Also, the design and engineering that goes into these pieces of equipment is improved year after year. Therefore, the wind turbine kit devices become more efficient and the cost of ownership goes down accordingly. The last consideration as to why wind turbine prices are going down is the fact that people are just aggressively jumping into the renewable energy game in alarming numbers.

Most Americans and most Europeans are very aware of shrinking fossil fuel amounts worldwide. We all know that these resources are going away and we've got to do something at home to limit power cost increases that are pretty much inevitable. So, the relative cost of wind energy is going down commensurately. In other words, as the price of energy produced from fossil fuels goes up, the attractiveness of using wind as an option to power your home is going down.

Whether it's an absolute or relative price decrease really makes no difference.

In summary, wind turbine prices are going down because they're becoming more popular devices for people to employ their homes to reduce the cost of electricity that they purchase. Don't think that you will be able to totally eliminate your electricity bill by getting one of these devices going. That is just not going to happen. You'll be lucky if you shave some off though and the more you take part in the renewable energy revolution, the more independent you will become an the better protected you will be against an eventual starvation of fossil fuel resources that will undoubtedly occur in the future.
