When you are in a serious mood to discuss residential wind turbine products it is wise to carefully consider all of the alternatives. These devices are not complicated but they do have several variations that need to be studied so that you can apply them and particular instances where they are most conducive to your success.

It really goes without saying but I will say it anyway - we're running out of fuel. This is not just a problem for the United States, but a problem worldwide. Fossil fuels were made millions of years ago the decay of carbon-based life forms and since that process is not ongoing. To continue consuming supplies of fossil fuels, we must rely on things that were created millions of years ago to give us our energy.

Obviously, that is not going to happen anytime soon. So, it is in all of our best interest to look deeply into the concept of renewables and how we can use them to power our electricity-based lifestyles.

That being said, the residential wind turbine comes in two basic varieties - the vertical axis and the horizontal axis device.

Both of these types of wind generators have been around since almost the beginning of recorded history. They have been used by ancient civilizations to move water in a similar fashion water pump would do and they have been used to grind grain for use in bread preparation.

The most popular by far of these devices is the horizontal axis residential wind turbine. It most closely represents the technology that you find in a windmill in the Netherlands. It has a horizontal shaft that turns parallel to the surface for the Earth and it is best suited for environments where the wind is very steady and strong.

The vertical axis wind turbine is also a very popular choice, but it is best suited for operations that have wind conditions that are quite turbulent. It is of much tighter rotational diameter and does not put as much stress on the underlying structure of what secures it to the location that you are mounting it on.

In summary, the best two devices to understand are the vertical axis residential wind turbine and the horizontal axis residential wind turbine. The cost for these two devices are not that different but the difference occurs when you're talking about performance and that's why you really need to understand your unique circumstances and under which both of these apply.
