If you are looking for a new career, then there may be no better one out there than wind turbine technician. The horizon looks awfully bright for anybody who's interested in this type of a technical career.

Imagine this - thousands and thousands of wind turbines dotting the country and very few people who know how to work on them. That is actually the scenario that we have before us now.

All of our attention has been focused on reducing domestic consumption of electricity due to the fact that shrinking supplies of fossil fuel resources are causing a worldwide meltdown in centralized production. Even though the entire economy is built on centrally generating and then dispersing power through company-owned distribution networks, that is about to radically change.

More and more, we are changing into society and into a world that makes its own power at home. Just like the advent of the gasoline pumps requiring us to pump our own, we are now making another paradigm shift in the way that we generator electricity for ourselves as well.

If you're seriously thinking about becoming a wind turbine technician, there are a few skill sets that you must possess in order to do well. You don't necessarily have to be naturally gifted in these areas but you need to acquire the training if you are not so gifted.

First of all, you need to have a desire to be outside and work in the great outdoors with home wind turbine and with commercial wind turbines. Most wind turbines are situated high on top of a tower, at least several hundred feet in the air to take advantage of the strongest winds. Therefore, you also need to be willing to work at a high altitude. Many people are afraid of heights so you'll either have to get over that or not take this type of job.

There are not a huge abundance of schools that teach wind turbine technician skills specifically, but that is changing. As this becomes more and more a mainstream job, then more and more schools are offering this is a degree.

In summary, in order to be considered for a slot as a wind turbine technician you need to be mechanically inclined as well as have a great desire to work outdoors. You can make a tremendous amount of money following this career path because so few people are actually doing this now.
