It really doesn't matter just how good you clean your home, it's always going to get dirty again and it's going to be pretty fast too if your air ducts in your heating and cooling system is filled with dust and other nasty impurities. So, it's important that your duct cleaning get done on a regular basis.

Your furnace is only going to work right by drawing in air from one section of your home and then blowing it out into the other rooms in the home. This is how then the dirt, pollen and other particles get spread everywhere.

It's best that you have an air duct cleaning service come in once a year in order to get every single inch of the internal duct work taken care of and cleaned out completely. However, there are quite a few things that you can do to cut down on the dirt and dust in between the yearly air duct cleaning.

You need to start with the vents in your home. It's important that you go and take off all the vent covers off of your walls, your floors and the ceilings. This is the only way in which you'll be able to get to your ducts. Another reason for removing the vents is because you need to clean them. Over the months of use, the furnace will kick out dust, pollen, hair and other junk and a lot of it will get caught in the grills of the vents.

Take a screwdriver and go around your home and remove all of your vent covers and then put them on some newspaper on the floor. Take some paper towels and wipe off all of the vents and then you can take a sponge and wipe them off with any household cleaning product.

Something else you can do that will help to with the duct cleaning is to take the hose attachment and the brush that comes with your vacuum and put together. Then take some duct tape so you can secure your hose in all places that it connects to your vacuum and the brush. Next you can take the hose and put it into the ducts and vacuum the sides. Then take a warm, damp sponge, some household cleaner and wipe out the inside as far as you can reach. Make sure to wear long sleeves and gloves when you do this.

Another thing that you should do is to check the filter that is on your furnace. This is probably one of the most important things that you can do. If that filter is clogged then this means the airflow through your home is not going to be as clean as it can be. So, it's very important that you replace your filter often.

Since filters come in a variety of different shapes and sizes, it's very important that you take a look at yours closely and take down all of the dimensions before you go off and buy a replacement filter. You can generally find the filter in the slot in the furnace that starts at the outgoing trunk of the actual duct system itself in the furnace box. Make sure that you don't get a cheap filter. You should be willing to pay a little extra for one that is thick and dense. Otherwise you're wasting your time doing any duct cleaning.
