When you are thinking about taking vantage of residential wind, it makes the most sense to consider all of your options and make sure you have at least tried to understand the entire spectrum of wind turbine devices available on the market now. This is in only part of the renewable energy horizon these days and therefore there are a huge number of manufacturers out there making theseproducts for the home.

Your options are almost unlimited due to the rapid expanse of this technology and residential wind being such a focus in Europe and in other countries. These devices are literally being made all over the world and in the countries where it the labor rate is much cheaper than in America.

Residential wind options are typically in the broadest sense either vertical axis wind turbines or horizontal axis wind turbines. There is a tremendous amount of difference between these two systems.

While their costs can be very similar, where you use them is very different. In most circumstances a horizontal wind turbine will work best in an open area where wind speeds are consistently high. In contrast, a vertical wind turbine is going to work most effectively in chaotic wind environment like the kind you find on top of the house.

You have to be strategic about how you analyze these options. You can't just place a horizontal axis wind turbine on top of a house and expect it to perform well. You have to match the wind turbine options to the conditions where you're trying to install the wind turbine. There is just no way around getting that specific with what you buy.

The options you have for the residential wind application are really quite broad though. You can choose almost any turbine and have it work somewhere on your property. It is just wise to be careful and make sure you match the specific turbine type to the wind conditions and location where you're planning to install the device.

In summary, residential wind is just as good as any other wind. It can be used to produce just as much energy as any wind turbine farm and the prevailing winds that exist there. However, you have to take special care and make sure you assess all of the options available before you make a decision about what you use in a specific spot on your land.
