When you start looking into the world of the residential wind turbine, you will find that it is a lot more complicated than it would seem at the onset. There are so many different devices in different categories of devices that you have to sort through in order to come up with anything approaching the correct decision, that it is very difficult to make sense out of this genre.
The Middle East oil crisis is of course caused all this. We have come to depend on the oil we get from hostile nations to the point where it is much like a physical addiction. We need the fossil fuels to power our electronically driven lives and at this point we really can't do a thing about the situation in the Middle East and how much control the folks who run it have over our daily lives.
That is why we want a solution for the home that gives us back control. We would like to think that there exists a device out there that we could simply order off the Internet and plug-in to start creating power at home. But is that true?
Are wind turbines and other renewable energy devices simply snake oil revenue generation? While it seems perfectly plausible that you could make electricity from the wind at your home, is the residential wind turbine something we can really use to drive our costs down or even eliminate them at our houses?
The answer is yes and no. While it is obvious that electricity can be made without a wind generator, the illusion that all power can be derived from renewable sources needs to be tempered with some realistic data about where specifically one can be located to accomplish that goal.
Yes, in that if you happen to live in a wind-rich state, then you are in luck. Most any renewable energy device that you choose will work for you. Those are states in the middle of the country and they have enough wind to support even a full move off the grid for many consumers.
No, in that the promise of creating very much power from wind energy in much of the rest of the country is illusory. Unless you're willing to spend a lot of time analyzing your specific property and where you can install a residential wind turbine to optimize power recovery, you are going to be disappointed with what electricity you create.
In summary, the residential wind turbine can really be a great solution for you to reduce energy costs, but you must analyze your property very carefully in order to come to the right conclusion and not end up wasting your time and money.
