Mexico is one of the destinations people look to when they want cheap vacation packages or cheap all-inclusive vacations. Mexico is a hot weather destination that works perfectly for many people who want cheap vacation packages to beat the frigid temperatures of winter. Of course, traveling in Mexico isn't the same as traveling in Canada or the United States. A Mexico vacation requires you to follow some pretty specific guidelines to ensure a happy and safe vacation. Any cheap vacation packages you purchase for a Mexico vacation should include information to help, so be sure to read everything you're given.

Violence in the country is an issue that holds a lot of people back from vacationing in Mexico. Cheap, all-inclusive vacations to Mexico will place you in a resort, and the resorts are generally free of crime. Mexico depends a lot on tourist dollars, so the country does a lot to ensure the resorts are safe. Just remember to stay within your resort while you're on vacation. Using common sense while you're out and about will help you to avoid a lot of the problems with violence. If you've secured a cheap all-inclusive vacation to Mexico, your food, drinks and entertainment should be included in the package and you shouldn't really have a reason to leave the resort.

Even if you do decide to venture away from your resort a little, don't travel alone at night, and don't display any expensive jewelry or other accessories while you're out. Also, be careful with your money and keep it in a front pocket, or a secured purse and wallet. If the cheap vacation packages you've explored do include features that offer everything you need right at your resort, go for that option so you won't have to worry.

In addition to your safety concerns, you should also remember to bring along certain items for your Mexico vacation. An English/Spanish translation dictionary may prove to be extremely useful, as will a small first aid kit and plenty of sunscreen. Your passport and other identification is a must, as are any medications you must take on a regular basis. You'll also want beachwear and casual clothing for a relaxing trip, although you can always buy any items you may forget to bring. Most people who look into cheap all-inclusive vacations to Mexico are thinking about sun and sand, so your beach items are the main thing to remember as far as clothing and accessories go.

Whoever shows you the different cheap vacation packages should also let you know about the eating and drinking situation in Mexico. It's important to drink plenty of fluids while spending time in the sun, but only drink distilled or bottled water at all times. Also, if you buy any fresh fruit or vegetables while in Mexico, be sure to wash them thoroughly with distilled or bottled water before you eat them, or peel the skin off, if possible. Following the eating and drinking rules will help you avoid severe intestinal upset while on your trip.
